Northern Thailand
Northern Thailand’s rugged geography and nature is the region’s premier draw. Abruptly rising mountains that continue largely unbroken to the borders of Burma and Laos and this fertile land is affectionately known as Lanna or “the land of a million rice fields”. The valleys and rivers of northern Thailand straddle an important historical junction where the culture and people of China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand meet. This region has its own language, culture and cuisine which contrast strikingly with the distinguishing features of the rest of Thailand.
