To support the environment and the local community, we practice recycling, conservation and use of organic local produce whenever possible. We also encourage our guests to get involved with our efforts, to learn about the amazing island wildlife and discover the wide variety of sea-life that feeds around the coral.
Our resident marine biologist, Chiara Fumagalli, is onsite to make sure that nature is protected and is always happy to share her knowledge of the island during your stay. Guests and staff are encouraged to join her on-going guest education programme which includes guided snorkelling tours, diving and fishing trips, a weekly evening Marine Biology Show and regular information sessions.
The coral reef is beautiful but extremely fragile and constant work is undertaken to maintain the natural balance. Guests and team members regularly get involved with our Coral Nursery Projects where we stimulate and monitor coral re-growth using naturally broken coral.
At Coco Bodu Hithi, we observe careful guidelines to ensure sustainable practices during fishing excursions where guests can help chart and measure protected species including the size and number of fish captured as well as releasing fish that have not yet reached maturity. This valuable data is then forwarded to the Maldives’ Marine Research Centre.
