The superior rooms have beautiful views of the river and are fully furnished with luxurious amenities and hand woven wall hangings. Known as the royal Botanical Garden Perdeniya, is situated about 5.5 km to the west from the city of Kandy and attracts 1.2 million visitors annually, It is renowned for its collection of a variety of orchids. It includes more than 300 varieties of orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees. Attached to it is the National Herbarium. The total area of the botanical garden is 147 acres (0.59 km2), at 460 meters above sea level, and with a 200-day annual rainfall. It is managed by the Division of National Botanic Gardens of the Department of Agriculture.
Pinnawala elephant orphanage is a nursery and a safe haven for wild Asian elephants. Pinnawala is notable for being the largest elephant orphanage in the world. The orphanage was originally founded in order to afford care and protection to many of the orphaned un-weaned wild elephants found wandering in and near the forests of Sri Lanka. Visit the orphanage and pet or feed a baby elephant and watch them line up in a procession ready to have a bath at the river nearby.
Visit this stunning 17th century Temple of the tooth, which is patronised by many to pay tribute to the tooth relic of Lord Buddha. The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic constitutes the premier Buddhist Institution of Sri Lanka and remains the cynosure of Buddhists and is a great tourist attraction. The annual pageant (Esala Perahera) has become the greatest religious festival of Sri Lanka which attracts thousands of pilgrims as well as tourists from all over the world. Kandy dazzles with the sounds and lights of this annual event, which is an absolute, must see during the months of July and August.
