Accomodation
Mazambala has 16 bungalows including three family units. All bungalows have private bathrooms with hot and cold running water. The bungalows are constructed the traditional way with bricks, reeds and thatched roofs. All are equipped with mosquito nets and ceiling fans, and are regularly sprayed with an odourless insecticide against mosquitoes.
Recreation
Mazambala offers game drives in the Bwabwata National Park which is noted for its huge herds of elephants - herds of several hundred elephants are not uncommon. The park has a great variety of animals including four of the “Big Five”. Game drives start with a 10 - 15 minute cruise by boat down the river and then a transfer to a game drive vehicle for a game drive on land in the park. The game drive typically lasts about 4 hours, depending on the elephants. Elephants often block the road which results in interesting delays.
These are leisurely floats, following a circular route and lasting about two hours, on the crystal clear water of the Kwando River and its labyrinth of papyrus and reed lined channels. See hippos, Lechwes and a variety of other animals, and of course, many beautiful birds. People especally enjoy the quiet and unspoiled nature on the river.
Mazambala and the Kwando flood plain are a real paradise for bird lovers. In the garden of Mazambala more than 30 different species are regularly observed. And, during a recent day trip 91 various species were seen. Bird watching tours are tailor made to the wishes of the participants.
The Kwando offers excellent opportunities for catching the desirable Tiger game fish and other species such as Breem, Nembwe, Squeaker, Barbel, etc. Boat hire is available at the lodge as well as fishing gear and fishing licenses.
