Jeff Keenliside was born on the East coast and grew up on the West coast. He worked in kitchens while pursuing post-secondary education until landing at the Aerie Resort where his passion for cooking landed him an apprenticeship, finishing at the newly opening Café Brio where he built a strong foundation in localism, seasonality and menu composition.
His six years spent at Café Brio took him from an apprentice to the Chef position and brought him accolades such as Apprentice of the Year & Restaurant of the Year. He left Brio to open Tofino’s Shelter Restaurant and then joined the Marina Restaurant in 2005 where he received honours as Vancouver Island Chef of the Year and also helped his pastry team achieve top honours two years in a row at the Grand Marnier Challenge. He committed himself to the role of Vice-President of the Island Chef’s Collaborative and helped organize their first annual event, Defending Our Backyard, recognizing the importance of relationships between local producers and top local restaurants. Jeff was also asked to sit on the apprenticeship advisory board at Camosun College to help define the changing needs of this educational component for the industry.
Jeff left the Marina Restaurant in 2009 to pursue every chef’s dream of running their own establishment. Lucy’s in the Square achieved top restaurant honours by Vancouver Magazine in its first year out. While the small neighbourhood bistro only ran for two years, the insight and experience he gained as a restaurant owner was invaluable. Jeff then utilized his education and experience to start consulting in Victoria, and a couple of years later opportunity once again presented itself and he rejoined the Marina Restaurant as Executive Chef. This soon led to an even greater level of responsibility as Corporate Chef for the entire Oak Bay Marine Group of companies. Jeff oversees the Marina Restaurant and the kitchens of four distinctive resort properties including Cape Santa Maria in the Bahamas, where he acts as Head Chef for six weeks every year.
His tireless efforts and passion for sustainability have resulted in having all of the company’s B.C. restaurants 100% Ocean Wise certified, and under his guidance they are now also serving up sustainability in the Bahamas. This May, the Marina Restaurant will have the first and only 100% Ocean Wise certified Sushi Bar in Victoria.

- The Spa at April Point
- Tyee Fishing
- Quadra Island Fishing Derbies
We all need a vacation from time to time – to escape to a place where serenity and balance melt the world away.
The Spa is set on the shores of Discovery Passage, amidst the manicured gardens of April Point Resort and in the centre of a tranquil pool. Housed in a beautiful, Japanese-inspired building, the Spa combines the Aveda philosophy of relaxation with the stunning views of April Point Resort on Quadra Island.
Tyee fishing is not like any other BC salmon fishing. It’s as pure as fishing gets. The only sounds you’ll hear are the screaming reels and shouts of encouragement. No motors are allowed, just classic rowboats. If it’s over 30 lbs., it’s a Tyee, but it isn’t easy. Some say the rewards aren’t worth it; but it’s much sweeter because the challenge is greater. And the pride of catching a Tyee using these classic methods is never ending. You’ll earn your membership in to the exclusive club and be a part of its great tradition. It’s been that way since the club was created in 1925.
Battle your buddies for bragging rights and the biggest fish with a fishing derby add-on at April Point.
The resort’s crew will handle weigh-ins and host an awards ceremony for you and your group.
You can add a fishing derby on to any trip. Just choose from the derbies below or create your own custom derby.

When you visit Quadra Island you're entering the heart of BC's Orca whale country. These beautiful giants pass through Discovery Passage throughout the year, feeding, socializing, playing and raising their young.
Various groups of Orca whales live in these waters. Occassionally you can even see a super clan of over 100 Orcas, made up of several groups of smaller whale clans.
April Point's Quadra Island whale watching tour primarily focuses on the Johnstone Strait area, stopping at whale watching hot spots including Kelsey Bay, Sayward, and Robson Bight.
During certain times of the year we'll head into Nodales Channel, where you can see black bears on the beaches.
Relax on a romantic cruise among the Discovery Island
The cruise departs from from the April Point dock and takes you into the hidden coves and inlets that make up Discovery Passage.
An experienced guide tells the tales of the area and shows you the rich and varied marine life in the passage. The Discovery Islands–a chain of islands and islets of the east coast of Vancouver Island–are one of the most beautiful cruising grounds in the world.
The cruise is aboard the Pachena Princess a 52' cabin cruiser with washroom and open deck. It is approximately 2 ½ hours and includes some light refreshments including wine & cheeses.
Feel the power and exhilarating adventure of a wild ride through the mighty whitewater rapids of Arron Rapids, near Campbell River.

This invigorating adventure is led by skilled, accredited and experienced guides. BC rafting trips are rated based on the strength of the rapids, and our friendly crew will be happy to help you choose the best trip.
Each adventure is three hours long and includes a full cruiser suit to keep you dry... you’re going to need it!
Explore the calm waters of Gowlland Harbour and make friends with curious harbour seals as they peer mischievously up at you. There’s never a shortage of marine birds to observe including majestic blue herons.
