Excursions can be made to the 12th century Galapatha Temple, the Brief Gardens, visit the nearby Lunuganga -a garden retreat that was created by Sri Lanka's iconic architect, Geoffrey Bawa and the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery.
With time in hand you can head to Ambalangoda which is famous for its mask making industry or enjoy a boat ride along the Madu River which is a complex eco system with mangroves and tiny islands or you can explore Galle's 17th century Dutch Fort, a UNESCO world heritage site.
Bentota which is a charming and relaxed part of the country is well known for its myriad of water sports. Its main attractions include the river and the beach while fun rides, boat rides, jet skiing, water-skiing, deep sea fishing, wind surfing etc can be enjoyed if you are in the mood for some adventure.
