Accomodation
High ceilings and vast spaces are among the now rare luxuries in each of our thirty-one Suites that will remind guests of times gone by in our central hotel in Yangon. Teakwood floors, hand carved wood frame beds and ceiling fans round out the colonial charms, tastefully balanced by Burmese lacquerware and antiquities in the bedroom and separate sitting area. Near floor to ceiling windows let in Yangon’s abundance of natural light during the day while our team of dedicated butlers attend to guests’ needs around the clock.
Rooms
Guests will have no trouble conjuring up Somerset Maugham inside these generous 55 square metre accommadations with polished teakwood floors below while ceiling fans whirl from high ceilings above. Perhaps he would have settled into a finely upholstered chair similar to the two in each Superior Suite’s sitting room, sun filled and finished with freshly cut flowers. Certainly he would be awed by the suite’s modern technology, cushy bedding, attentive butlers and the spacious bathroom with double sinks and a deep soak bathtub.

Noel Coward wrote some of his finest works in Asian colonial hotel rooms like our Deluxe Suite, each one a generous 60-65 square metres with polished teakwood floors below and ceiling fans whirling from high ceilings above. He might have sought inspiration by gazing upon Yangon from the oversized windows through which streams of sunlight flow into the separate sitting area and elegant bedroom with its hand carved wood frame beds and a tasteful selection of Burmese antiquities. Certainly he would have been impressed by the suite’s modern technology, attentive butlers and spacious bathroom with double sinks and deep soak bathtub.

Dining
First impressions have been known to silence even our most well travelled guests at The Strand Grill which exudes history under its soaring vaulted ceiling with sparkling chandeliers and a skylight illuminating the elegant black & white marble floor. For casual gatherings, slide into a padded egg-cane rattan chair under whirling ceiling fans in The Strand Café with its endlessly entertaining views along Strand Road from grand teak framed windows. Friday evenings, stop in for Happy Hour at The Strand Bar, a longstanding Yangon tradition.
The colourful bustle along Yangon Road streams in along with the sunshine through tall teak framed windows at The Strand Café. Marble floors inlaid with teak and black lacquered ceiling fans recall the city’s colonial era while contemporary British photographer Tim Hall’s striking black & white photographs of the country’s monks and hill tribes adds memorable, artful context to the cool, comfortable room, as does the café's take on Myanmar’s popular Mohynga noodles and afternoon Burmese tea served daily with homemade pastries.
A dining room of timeless elegance best soaked up by evening candlelight, The Strand Grill seamlessly blends the 1901 building’s colonial architectural elements from the marble inlaid floor to its high vaulted ceiling with museum quality black and gold lacquer panels from Bagan. A classically trained guitarist accompanies its favourite dishes that place this among Yangon’s top tables for fining dining.
Secrets and rendezvous that these teak lined walls have witnessed inside The Strand Bar surely made their way into a classic tale of the Far East. Our legendary lounge continues to make memories especially at Friday’s longstanding Happy Hour, still the place to be in this city, sipping a Strand Sour or unwinding at the billiard table.
With its colonial cane furniture, marble floors and lofty ceilings, The Lobby Lounge is the centre of all activities at The Strand, a popular gathering place for business or leisure. While local musicians play the Burmese harp and xylophone daily, guests can unwind and have a relaxing afternoon tea.
